Ook omarmt hij de gedachte van organische groei van het nieuwe Marineterrein zoals die door de rijksoverheid en de gemeente is voorgenomen. Het vreemde is dat alle plannen dan wel weer van tevoren zijn bedacht. Maar anders was zijn ontwerp natuurlijk weer niet af geweest ;-)
Gimm laat ook de bestaande gebouwen 27D en 27E intact. Hij incorporeert ze in een groot blok door er haaks nieuwe gevels tussen te plaatsen. Als de uitvoering goed is een briljant idee.
Verder vind ik het een vrij saai ontwerp. De twee blokken met trapsgewijze oploop van verdiepingen zijn mooi bedacht en liggen in de avond recht in de zon (mocht die schijnen natuurlijk). Maar de andere blokken zijn niet echt spannend. Hierbij drie smalle hoge flats met Bijlmer-allure. Ook het park is nogal zielloos van vorm en uitvoering. De Voorwerf wordt leeg gelaten, maar dat is dan ook alles. Er is geen duidelijke functie. Enkel wat groen.
De hoek bij het park moet een soort Startup City (Incubator Town) worden. Neelie zal er blij mee zijn.
Incubator Town

This proposal for the Marine Etablissement focuses on two elements: the creation of an
Incubator and the creation of a residential neighborhood linked together by a public
green space.
The Incubator is to be a centre for new ideas and initiatives related to science and
technology and the ‘make industry’. Precedents of ateliers for the creative industry can
be found in many major cities like the Centquatre in Paris on which this Incubator space
is modeled. The residential neighborhood is a typological study of Dutch city blocks and
canal city blocks in particular. What makes these blocks so attractive and why do they
stand the test of time? The proposal incorporates many known housing typologies and
introduces a Dutch variation of an archetypical North American walk-up apartment block.
For the development of the site a detailed staging plan is made that allows an ‘organic’
development over time. Starting with the (partial) withdrawal of the Navy and the
establishment of the first phase of the Incubator in existing naval buildings, followed
by the incremental ‘takeover’ of the Etablissement by the city and the inhabitants of
Amsterdam. Within a solid framework, this strategy allows for adaptation over time and
flexibility to address ever changing market demands.
